Take Your Pick

Week three is underway in the NCAA Football season. Teams have gone up and down, from BYU and Cincinnati to Georgia and Oklahoma. Thursday, Miami pulled off an unexpected win against Jonathan Dwyer and #14 Georgia Tech. Now, Boise State leads Fresno State 34-27 in the 3rd quarter. There have already been many upsets and close-to upsets this year. Last week it was Oklahoma State. Week one, it was Oklahoma. Here are some games I think will be intriguing and what I think the outcome will be.

Florida State at 7 BYU
I think Florida State and BYU should be one of the best games this weekend. BYU is 2-0 with their home opener coming against this prestigious football school. After losing it's season opener to Miami, FSU is looking to get back on track as they have been in previous years. I think this game is going to rely on the quarterback play, and Christian Ponder will have to step up for FSU. Nonetheless, I think Max Hall and his fellow Cougars should play strong in their pursuit for a BCS bowl game, but I think it will be a lot closer than many think, 31-24.

19 Nebraska at 13 Virginia Tech
This one will also be interesting. I don't know if Nebraska can pull off the upset against one of the ACC's better teams, and I expect the VT defense to play strong at home. Tyrod Taylor needs to have a solid game if Virginia Tech wants another win, and I think he will. I'm picking the Hokies in this one, 24-13.

East Carolina at 24 North Carolina
As much as I love the Tar Heels, I think they are on upset alert. They lost their two great offensive stars in Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate to the NFL Draft (I think Brandon Tate was extremely underrated), and UNC barely got away from UConn with a late-game holding penalty in the endzone. East Carolina has played pretty well against the ACC recently, not winning all of the games, but competing in them. ECU has not lost to an ACC team by more than 15 points since 2004, and they have beaten at least one ACC team every year since 2004. I pick ECU to pull off the upset, 24-17.

Boston College at Clemson
This ACC matchup could be a very interesting game. Boston College is 2-0, while Clemson won their season opener and then lost a close game to Georgia Tech after two late field goals by GT kicker Scott Blair. Clemson looked great last week, scoring 27 unanswered points against the then-ranked 15th team in the country. Although BC is 2-0, I think that C.J. Spiller and the Tiger offense will have a big game. I like Clemson in this one, 35-20.
