The Marching Saints

In 2007, The New England Patriots completed the first ever 16-0 regular season. Unfortunately, they lost in the Super Bowl to the New York Giants that year, but again, no team has won all 16 regular season games other than the Pats. This year, there are two teams who are currently undefeated. The New Orleans Saints, who are coming off an impressive win against Bill Belichick and the Patriots, and the Indianapolis Colts are currently 11-0 and each have a chance to win all 16 games this year. These teams have been unstoppable: here are some notes about each team:

Colts - lead the NFL in passing YPG, 2nd in the AFC in total YPG, 2nd in the AFC in PPG allowed, tied 2nd in the AFC in interceptions

Saints - lead the NFL in total YPG and the NFC in passing YPG, 12 more touchdowns than any other team in the NFL, lead the NFL in PPG (37.0)

Both of these teams are very talented and definitely have Super Bowl potential, but I think that this may be a tough weekend for the Colts against Tennessee. Vince Young has finally matured as an NFL quarterback, as he threw for a career high 387 yards against Arizona and had the game-winning touchdown pass to rookie Kenny Britt as time expired. I'm not saying Vince Young is a Pro Bowl quarterback: all I'm saying is that he has improved as a passer and the time on the bench helped him. Also, the Colts play the Broncos and the Jets on their schedule, and with the Jets playing a few mediocre teams in the next three weeks before they play Indianapolis, maybe Mark Sanchez can get back on track like he did in the beginning of the year.

This year, as stated in a NFL preseason post, I predicted the Saints would do well, but not this well. Boy did I really mess up my predictions for the NFC South: New Orleans has definitely proved me wrong. I never though I would say this, but I think the Saints will finish the regular season undefeated. I thought they would lose to the Patriots, but they blew them away, to my surprise. The Saints actually have a pretty easy schedule for the most part. If you look it, they have played just four teams with winning records, and two of those four are 6-5. I think they should be able to beat the Redskins, Bucs and Falcons, but they might have a tough game against Dallas. While their Week 15 game against Dallas is a dangerous one, I honestly believe the Panthers are the biggest threat to their perfect season and have a really good chance of taking down the Saints. They play Carolina in Week 17, so if they are 15-0 before the game, the pressure will definitely be on them. They are playing at Carolina, and the Panthers have a very solid and balanced team, although their 4-7 record doesn't show it. Jake Delhomme has had a very rough year. In 11 games this year, he has 18 interceptions, but in 11 games against the Saints, he has 12 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. I think the only reason why I am not picking Carolina to win is because I don't have the guts to make a prediction that bold. Still, I think the Panthers have a really good chance of beating them. If anyone takes them down, it'll be Carolina.
