Upset Alert?

Happy holidays everyone! In my Yahoo College Bowl Pick'em, I am 8 for 11 and correctly picked the two Mountain West-Pac 10 upsets (BYU over Oregon State and Utah over Cal). The decade is coming to a close, and nine more games will take place before the new year begins. Here are a couple of interesting games that I know I'll be watching come game time.

Oklahoma vs. 21 Stanford - December 31, 2:00 ET on CBS
Now this is a fantastic matchup. Heisman runner-up Toby Gerhart has ran for 1736 yards and 26 touchdowns for Jim Harbaugh's Cardinals. Oklahoma finished lower than 2nd in the Big 12 for the first time in the Bob Stoops era (since 1999), but they still have some talented players. Quarterback Landry Jones has played well under the radar replacing injured 2008 Heisman winner Sam Bradford, putting up 2780 yards and 23 touchdowns in about ten and a half games at QB. I picked Gerhart for the Heisman trophy, but Oklahoma is 7th in the entire nation in rushing yards allowed per game at just under 89 YPG. The front 7 is led by future first round draft pick Gerald McCoy, the 6'4", 297 lbs junior defensive tackle. Yes, that's right. I'm picking Oklahoma over Stanford in a close game.

15 Miami vs. 25 Wisconsin - Tonight, 8:00 ET on ESPN
I already talked about this game in an earlier post, but I do think it will be interesting. I say Miami comes out on top if Jacory Harris can be on his A game.

20 Arizona vs. 22 Nebraska - Tomorrow, 8:00 ET on ESPN
Again, I wrote about this a few posts ago. I think Nebraska gets the job done because of their defense. They had 9 sacks against the Big 12 champions, Texas, including 4.5 from AP Player of the Year Ndamukong Suh.

11 Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee - December 31, 7:30 ET on ESPN
Now Tennessee was projected to have a decent year. What did they do? They had a decent year at 7-5 and 4-4 in the SEC. They did not "beat Florida" and it certainly was not "a blast", as coach Lane Kiffin said it would be when he was hired to replace Phillip Fulmer. I picked Virginia Tech to have a solid year and be a top-15 team, but not win the ACC. How did they do? They had a solid 9-3 season, but did not win the ACC. I think that Virginia Tech's offense will be way too much for Tennessee on Thursday. Tyrod Taylor had a much improved year from last year's sophomore slump. Taylor had more than double the amount of passing yards as he had last year and 11 more touchdowns. Also, freshman running back Ryan Williams ran for over 1500 yards and 19 touchdowns. I pick Virginia Tech BIG in this one.
