The Wizards Got Tickets to the Gun Show...Literally

Three years ago, Gilbert Arenas was one of the new faces of the NBA. At the age of 25, Arenas was one of the top scorers in the NBA, averaging 28.4 points per game in the 2006-2007 season. Things were looking great: although he had just recovered from an injury, he signed a new six year, $111 million contract extension 18 months ago. He was even on the cover of NBA Live 08. Arenas started off the year great, averaging 22.6 points per game and 7.2 assists per game in the 32 games he's played this year. Then came Javaris Crittenton.

Javaris Crittenton was drafted 19th by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2007 NBA Draft. After being traded to the Grizzlies, he ended up in Washington. The former Georgia Tech guard has not lived up to the potential, as he was projected to be a very good NBA player. Clearly he said something to Arenas that got Arenas angry: last week, Arenas and Crittenton both pulled out guns on each other. They were allegedly arguing about a gambling debt, and now Arenas has been suspended indefinitely. Washington, a team expected to make the playoffs after a terrible 19-63 season, is 11-22 so far. Losing their top scorer will definitely not help their chances at getting back into the playoff race. On Jim Rome is Burning today, people were discussing the possibility of Arenas being suspended for the year. If that happens, it will the third season in a row that he missed a substantial amount of time. Yesterday, he pretended to shoot his teammates in Philadelphia. The suspension came today, and David Stern clearly was angered by Arenas' actions last night. The Wizards point guard hasn't even apologized for the incident or anything. It seemed like Arenas was going in the right direction, but now, who knows where he's going. For all we know, he could be going to another team next year.
