PGA in the Past: 2008

Phil Mickelson is finally back. Tiger is getting hot again with his win last week at the Buick Championship. The result? PADRAIG HARRINGTON is winning. Really sounds familiar, doesn't it. Last year, Tiger won the US Open at Torrey Pines. Shortly after, he had knee surgery and sat out the rest of the year. While Tiger was out, Phil Mickelson did not step up: Padraig Harrington did. He won the 2008 British Open and the 2008 PGA Championship. Now it seems like it is back to the recent past. Harrington is winning after two rounds at -7 while Tiger is playing OK at -2. Phil is playing reasonably for his first tournament back at -1. But Padraig might be preparing to defend his PGA Championship. But, some players may step up. Here are some predictions I have for the tournament:

3 Players to Watch: Padraig Harrington, Tim Clark and Mike Weir
These players are at -7, -6 and -3 respectively. Padraig can handle the pressure, and I don't think he's going to fall out of the race. Tim Clark started off slow, but then went -3 on the back 9, I think he'll stay in contention. And watch out for Mike Weir: a slow Thursday with a 71, but shot 66 today with a bogey-free round.

2 Players to Fall: Scott Verplank and Prayad Marksaeng
Verplank is at -5, but after a bogey-free round Thursday managed to do decent until the bogey on 18. He hasn't placed 3rd or higher since last year. Also, Prayad Marksaeng shot a solid 66 Thursday, but shot an even par 70 today and was +3 on the back 9 .

1 Winner: Padraig Harrington
Padraig has played great golf so far and I think he can play well today and tomorrow because he has handled the pressure of leading and winning majors, so I don't think this will be a big deal for him.
