GatorNation

Let me put it this way: Urban Meyer did work. Whether you're a Gator fan or any other fan, Florida's recruiting class is incredible. Today was National Signing Day 2010 for the College football world, and Meyer and the Florida Gators were able to get four of the Top Ten recruits. ESPN's #1 prospect Ronald Powell, top defensive tackle Dominique Easley and top safety Jonathan Dowling all signed with Florida. In total, the Gators racked up 17 of ESPNU's Top 150 recruits, with 12 of them being in the Top 50. The Gators will lose the heart and sole of their team in Tim Tebow, but with all of these recruits, they will definitely be one of the teams to watch in the next few years.

In fact, according to the ESPN rankings, four of the top eight recruiting classes were in the SEC. It seems like arguably the best conference in college football just keeps getting better and better. Another note about this year's recruiting: I'm no expert, but I've noticed that Florida State, USC and Tennessee all did terrific jobs this year recruiting, even though all three have new head coaches. Maybe all of those programs will climb back towards the top in a year or two with the help from these recruiting classes.

Oh yeah, and Mack Brown didn't do too bad either. The Longhorns, who had the second best recruiting class according to the ESPN rankings, picked up the #2 and #4 recruits in the country and 15 Top 150 recruits. Texas is a lot better as well with these recruits and with quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who got some big experience against Alabama in the BCS Championship game. It seems to me that Florida, Alabama and Texas will still be the teams to beat for the next two or three years, but the draft classes of some schools such as Auburn, Oklahoma and Florida State could bring these schools back into the picture for competing for a national title.
