Allen Iverson has had a career that should put him in the Hall of Fame. He has had a lot of off-the-court issues, but on the court, his 27.1 career average is the 5th highest average in NBA history (2nd out of active players only to Lebron James), and the 2001 NBA MVP put up Hall of Fame numbers from 1996 to 2007. Unfortunately, even though he made his 10th straight All Star team, AI averaged a career low 17.5 points per game and 1.5 steals per game in the 2008-2009 season. Nonetheless, despite all of the rumors that he would retire, Iverson signed a one-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies today, his fourth NBA team. For weeks there have been talks of Iverson going to Memphis, but finally, after many months of the off season, the deal was done. That Memphis team looks good now: I think Iverson can make a difference. I don't know if they are a playoff team in the talented Western Conference yet, but this addition is definitely an improvement. If they put him at point guard, they have three genuine scorers in AI, OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay. Marc Gasol is a coming off a good rookie year at center, and I think that rookie Hasheem Thabeet can help the Grizzlies on the defensive side. 17.5 PPG is nothing close to Iverson average for his career, but even if he gets 17.5 a game again, it will still contribute for Memphis.
